HWH Creeping Slide Room
If you have an HWH hydraulic slide room that is creeping out over time after it has been fully retracted, or is creeping in after being fully extended, this should help figure out why & what the solution is.
First need to ensure you don’t have ANY fluid leaks at the slide room manifold, hoses, or any of the cylinders (and all connectors).
Second, determine which "style" of room you have, A style (room extends when cylinder extends) or B Style (room extends when cylinder retracts). See HWH Slide Room Identification page (HWH Slide Room ID) or bottom text in the pressure test procedure document.
Once you determine which room style you have, then you only focus on the CYLINDER/solenoid valve that controls that action. Meaning, the motion of the cylinder & NOT the motion of the room. Typically, the valves above the motor control the cylinder RETRACTION and the valves above the tank control cylinder EXTENSION. It is best to ignoring the tags on the wires, as they reference the action of the room. You can review this document for further insight: Slide Room Solenoid Valve Identification
Once you know what room style you have, most people will "throw parts at it" and just replace the correct solenoid valve for this issue you are seeing:
A Style Room:
- CREEPS IN – replace cylinder RETRACT solenoid valve
- CREEPS OUT – replace cylinder EXTEND solenoid valve... Could also be an internally leaking cylinder, and pressure test needed to confirm 100%
B Style Room:
- CREEPS IN – replace cylinder EXTEND solenoid valve… Could also be an internally leaking cylinder, and pressure test needed to confirm 100%
- CREEPS OUT – replace cylinder RETRACT solenoid valve
As I mentioned above, simply replacing the correct solenoid valve may NOT resolve the issue, and could be an internally leaking cylinder. While time consuming & many times very challenging (due to accessibility), performing a cylinder pressure test and eliminating the cylinder as the potential source of the issue can save you $$$/parts. HWH Slide Cylinder Pressure Test Procedure
If you've made it through this page thus far, the reality is that it is very time consuming to figure out what is causing your slide room to creep. Assuming that the room is creeping equally (if one side is creeping, then it is most likely an internally leaking slide cylinder), the best & quickest way to resolve the issue is to just change the correct solenoid for the issue you are experiencing above. However, if the room is creeping less than an inch, it could be the check valve(s) in the manifold. Basic rule we use here at the shop:
- If the room is creeping out/in MORE than 1", then change the correct solenoid valve.
- If the room is creeping out/in LESS than 1", then change BOTH the check valves AND the correct solenoid valve. Here is a document on the slide room check valve replacement procedure.
